British Values Statement
Field Road Academy is an inclusive community where everyone is considered important. At Field Road Academy we value the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all pupils, families and staff and undertake a variety of events and lessons to celebrate these. We have found this approach to be enriching for all parties as it teaches tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and the wider world. Underpinning all of this are a range of curriculum topics which have strong links to the British Empire, such as studying, The Celts, Romans, The Vikings, The Angles and Saxons, World War Two (including a local history project that studies the impact of World War Two on the local community) and HMS Empire Windrush. These eras have shaped and formed the history of modern Britain.
Our children are taught to understand the importance of democracy in modern Britain and are taught an understanding of the democratic process in a variety of ways; We use local and general elections to learn how decisions are made in our community and across the British Isles. Children are taught the importance of their roles within the school council and in their house groups and a democratic process is used to elect captains in these groups. As an academy we believe in the fundamental rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs; through this the pupils develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain. This is shown through the moral development of our pupils.
Our curriculum promotes the development of students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding through Personal, Social, Health and Economic education, whole school and class assemblies, the school council and in lessons across all subjects. As a result, students develop respect for and understanding of different faiths, cultures and lifestyles and are very well prepared for life in modern democratic Britain.
